Where We Come From
Born from the healing traditions of Indian Ayurveda, Aveda Arts & Sciences Institutes’ holistic approach centers around a natural balance between physical and mental well-being. Aveda, which means “knowledge of the whole,” was founded in 1978 by celebrated stylist Horst Rechelbacher. After struggling with the effects of burnout in the midst of his successful salon career, Horst found healing through herbal remedies, yoga, and meditation.
Aiming to improve the lives of fellow stylists and clients, Horst created the Aveda brand with the mission of combining physical wellness and beauty with inner healing. Today, Aveda’s globally recognized line of plant-based products, hair and spa services, and educational facilities promote the values of personal care and environmental responsibility.
